The latest Avengers: Doomsday casting update is great news for MCU movie fans.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is currently in post-production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie is scheduled to arrive in United States theaters on December 18, 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then follows in 2027.

So far, Marvel has unveiled four Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailers. The first teaser revealed that Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is returning to the MCU, while the second focused on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the third on a handful of X-Men characters. The fourth and final teaser put the spotlight on Letitia Wright’s Black Panther/Shuri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing, and more. A longer Avengers: Doomsday trailer was shown to those attending Disney’s panel at CinemaCon last week; however, this has not yet been released online.

Descriptions of the CinemaCon trailer revealed that Kathryn Newton, who played Cassie Lang in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is returning in Avengers: Doomsday. Newton has since officially confirmed her casting on Instagram.

Why should MCU fans be excited about Kathryn Newton being in Avengers: Doomsday?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania perhaps isn’t one of the better MCU movies we’ve gotten — many people, myself included, would argue that it’s quite bad. Newton is hardly the problem with that movie. In fact, if there’s any Cassie Lang-related complaint I have with Quantumania, it’s that they didn’t use her nearly enough.

Newton, too, is a great and fun presence in movies. After Quantumania, she starred in movies like Lisa Frankenstein, Abigail, and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. Her stardom is certainly on the rise, and she’s at the point where she’s kind of just getting better and better in everything she appears in.

Then, of course, there are the implications. There have been all kinds of rumors that the Young Avengers are going to officially form and be part of Avengers: Doomsday/Secret Wars, MCU fans want to see the Young Avengers, and, yeah, Cassie Lang being in here certainly does make one think we’ll be getting the Young Avengers. Still need Iman Vellani and Hailee Steinfeld’s casting to be announced. But it kind of sounds like this is something that’ll be happening.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is dated for December 17, 2027.
