Dresses Worth the RSVP: 20 Must-Have Styles

Outfit Details: Alemais Dress, Saint Laurent Heels (old, similar here), Valentino Clutch (old, similar here)

Some invitations have me thinking about the dress before I’ve even checked the date. Weddings, celebrations, and evening events are where I want the clothes to rise to the occasion too, with a silhouette or fabric that feels memorable the minute you put it on. Sometimes that means saturated color, other times it is the sweep of silk or a detail that makes the whole silhouette feel more distinctive.

Fall makes that kind of dressing especially good because the fabrics get richer. Velvet takes color deeper, feathers give movement to a hem or cuff, and a little shine can completely change the way a dress reads across a room. I like choosing the dress first and letting everything else come afterward, almost as punctuation. When the invitation calls for something more, this is exactly where I want to go with it.
