The Nutty Professor
Since Eddie Murphy’s stand-up days, audiences have recognized his talent for portraying various characters from his family in extended scenes. Saturday Night Live provided Murphy the opportunity to embody different characters for sketches. In Beverly Hills Cop, Murphy showcased his creativity with scenarios featuring Axel Foley inventing characters spontaneously. Coming to America cleverly had Murphy and Arsenio Hall take on multiple roles. The release of The Nutty Professor generated significant excitement due to Murphy’s ability to perform entire scenes while playing nearly all the characters.
4K Blu-ray
Blu-ray.com has announced that Eddie Murphy’s 1996 remake of The Nutty Professor is set for a 4K Blu-ray release by the boutique label Kino Lorber. This new physical media edition is scheduled to be available in stores on December 22, so prepare your Christmas lists!
The description states,
“Brilliant and obese scientist Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) invents a miraculous weight-loss solution. After a date with chemistry student Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett) goes poorly, a despondent Klump tests the solution on himself. Although he instantly sheds 250 pounds, the side effects include a second personality: an obnoxiously self-assertive braggart named Buddy Love. Buddy becomes more popular than Sherman, but his arrogance and misbehavior quickly spiral out of control.”
