This series marks the first time Abrams has been involved in writing a show since Undercovers in 2010, although he has been a prominent executive producer on various other projects in the intervening years.
Abrams shared his creative vision with THR, stating, “I had this image of a phone in the middle of the desert and a car driving up, and a guy getting on the phone to find out where he was meant to go next,” reflecting the intriguing premise that sparked the development of the series. He emphasized the importance of unraveling the identity of the characters involved, particularly the FBI agent, which led them to build a narrative that is not only twisty and complex but also deeply satisfying. The ultimate goal was to create a storyline that feels inevitable, blending humor and absurdity with a captivating vibe.
LaToya Morgan expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “The thing that was most exciting for me was that we could do something that was a throwback to things that are not really on television anymore. You could have this fun pastiche of action and humor. It was really a chance to jump into something with both feet.“ This enthusiasm for crafting a unique viewing experience is evident in the series’ approach to storytelling, combining nostalgia with fresh perspectives.
