Netflix will soon remove the 2018 comedy Peter Rabbit, featuring the voices of Margot Robbie and James Corden, from its platform. This film is an adaptation of a classic children’s book, showcasing a humorous battle between a rabbit and his new human neighbor.
Peter Rabbit is leaving Netflix this month
Starting Saturday, May 16, 2026, Peter Rabbit will no longer be available for streaming on Netflix.
The film is based on Beatrix Potter’s beloved children’s book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. It combines live-action with CGI, primarily utilizing CGI to create the animal characters. Directed by Will Gluck (known for Easy A, Friends with Benefits, and Anyone But You), he also co-wrote the film alongside Rob Lieber.
Peter Rabbit follows the titular character living in Britain’s Lake District with his sisters and other animal companions. He has a long-standing feud with the grumpy farmer Mr. McGregor from the nearby estate. However, after Mr. McGregor unexpectedly passes away, his nephew Thomas takes over the manor. Determined to eliminate the animals, Thomas blocks all access points to his estate. The conflict intensifies when Bea, Peter’s kind-hearted human friend, falls in love with Thomas.
The live-action cast includes Rose Byrne as Bea and Domhnall Gleeson as Thomas. The voice cast features James Corden as Peter Rabbit, Margot Robbie as Flopsy, Elizabeth Debicki as Mopsy, Daisy Ridley as Cottontail, and Sia as Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, among others.
The film premiered in the United States on February 9, 2018, receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. Critics rated it at 64%, while audiences gave it a lower score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic, users averaged a score of 6.4, compared to a critics’ score of 51.
Thanks to the legacy of the original book, the film concluded its theatrical run with a global box office total of $351.5 million against a budget of $50 million. Additionally, a sequel titled Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway was released in May 2021 but did not achieve the same commercial success.
