Game of Thrones and Doctor Who Actor Passes at 80

The world has lost a veteran actor.

Tom Chadbon—whose decades-long acting career includes appearances in Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, and Casino Royale—died last weekend at age 80, according to Fantom Events, which hosted a signing with the British star earlier this year.

Describing Chadbon as a “familiar face to many,” the company shared in a July 27 statement, “He was always a warm and friendly man to work with, and we send our condolences to his family at this sad time.”

Indeed, Chadbon frequented screens both big and small, holding acting credits in over 100 productions.

Most notably, he played private detective Duggan alongside Tom Baker’s Doctor in the 1979 Doctor Who serial “City of Death.” The finale of the four-parter drew over 16 million viewers and remains the most-watched episode in the long-running show’s history, per BBC.

“Tom Chadbon was terribly funny. Terribly funny!” Baker said of his co-star in a 2009 interview with Doctor Who Magazine. “I used to love the other actors—I was always trying to help them make things funnier or more dramatic.”
