Since fantasy movies often have some kind of big, dramatic conflict at their center, there are ample opportunities to deliver spectacle whenever it comes time to wrap up a story. Enter the climax, which you get in pretty much every story, fantasy or otherwise, which can be a little different from an ending, since the climax – at least traditionally – happens right before the ending, or might encompass the lead-up to the end and the end, depending on the story being told.
A climax is regarded as the narrative “point of highest tension and drama,” so that’s usually some point in the final act. That’s the case for the following fantasy (or part-fantasy) movies, with all of them having particularly memorable final acts and/or climaxes, some of them because of spectacle, and some more because of how emotional they get. There will also be unavoidable spoilers here, since you have to go through an ending to properly communicate what works about it.

‘Army of Darkness’ (1992)
The Evil Dead is a supernatural horror movie, while Evil Dead II is more of a horror-comedy. Things change further when you get to the third movie in the trilogy, Army of Darkness, which honestly has very little by way of genuine horror, and is instead more of a farcical fantasy movie that sees the trilogy’s protagonist, Ash Williams, sent back in time to the Dark Ages. And to England, somehow, even though the other two movies were set in the U.S. You just have to roll with it.
There’s a lot to just roll with here, honestly, but so long as you can get on the level of Army of Darkness, you’ll likely have a blast. There’s a massive battle sequence that concludes the movie, which isn’t really technically staggering compared to most blockbusters, but is impressive considering the scale of these movies, and also considering how much bigger it is than the climaxes found in either of the first two Evil Dead movies.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ (2003)
For a time, Pirates of the Caribbean was a trilogy, and not a perfect one, but it was impressively sized and made admirable attempts to up the spectacle with each installment. Things got a bit messier after the already messy third film, but yeah, it was a trilogy for a bit. Still, the first movie always stood as the best and had the greatest climax of the trilogy too.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is just an overall hard movie to fault in terms of blending action, adventure, fantasy, and comedy genres. It’s not even like all the action at the end is miles better than what was seen earlier but it’s like yards better. Maybe? Anyway, it’s a great watch throughout and that well and truly extends to the final act, so that makes it feel worthy of inclusion here.

‘The Green Mile’ (1999)
Most endings here are highlighted because they’re some level of fun or otherwise spectacular but that’s not true for The Green Mile. This is a three-hour-long movie about death row inmates and guards with some fantastical elements entering into things because one man who’s been sentenced to death has strange healing abilities and also isn’t guilty of the crime he’s on death row for.
He manages to do some good but still has to face his execution at the end of the film anyway which makes for a famously upsetting ending owing to how well acted and well made this movie is. It’s hard to get that across in words but that’s probably what the three-hour runtime is for, since you’re very much made to care about what happens in The Green Mile, and subsequently feel its weight when it ends.

‘A Touch of Zen’ (1970)
Before getting to action,A Touch of Zen takes its time telling a story about a woman on run , people pursuing her , eventual allies she makes while fleeing . The “ Zen ” part title really emphasized maybe first two hours epic , while final hour delivers some great martial arts action , concentration fighting there does make whole climax feel very grand scale .
Also , that final act drawn out , thankfully not point exhaustion . It ‘s just long because movie long , but by stage ,A Touch of Zen has hopefully proven hypnotic offbeat enough have you on its side . If you’re fanCrouching Tiger , Hidden Dragon , want something arguably even more fantastical that , by time climax comes around , scratches same itch thenA Touch of Zen very easy recommend .
