Our July Book Club pick is officially our first supernatural plus size vampire romance, and honestly? I don’t think we could have chosen a better one.

Even better, this is the very first book our community voted to read together, which makes this month’s discussion feel even more special.

We’re officially halfway through I Accidentally Hooked Up with a Vampire by Jessica Cage, and if this first half is any indication, we’re in for one wild ride. As someone who doesn’t usually read fantasy or supernatural romance, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Now?

I’m completely hooked.

Our Book Club Had Opinions

One of my favorite parts of every Book Club meeting is asking the questions the book naturally brings up.

This month’s discussion started with one simple scenario:

If you discovered the person you were dating was actually a vampire, what would you do?

Would you:

• Walk away immediately?
• Call the police?
• Try to eliminate the threat yourself?
• Or simply continue dating like nothing happened?

Let’s just say…our members had thoughts.

The overwhelming response was some version of, “Absolutely not. He has to go.”

The logic made sense. No matter how trustworthy a vampire seems, can you ever fully ignore the instinct that tells them humans are food?

But not everyone agreed.

A few of us pointed out that Domino has consistently shown himself to be protective, caring, and willing to put Whitney’s safety above everything else. Based solely on what we’ve seen so far, he’s earned more trust than plenty of human love interests we’ve read before.

Personally?

I’d let Domino stick around.

At least until he gave me a reason not to.

Would You Forgive Your Friends?

The vampire reveal wasn’t the only secret that sparked debate.

Whitney eventually learns her best friends have spent years hiding the truth about who she really is. They’re a witch and a monster slayer who made it their mission to protect her long before she understood why she needed protecting.

That raises another question.

Would you feel betrayed if your closest friends kept something this life-changing from you?

Or would you understand they were trying to keep you safe?

During our discussion, we all landed on the same answer.

She’s funny , compassionate , fiercely loyal , and never afraid to speak her mind. Even while her entire world is turning upside down , she continues showing up for the people she loves.

Now she’s facing the biggest identity shift imaginable.

Not only has she accidentally fallen for a vampire , but she’s discovering her family history stretches back millions of years to beings beyond human understanding.

It’s a lot.

Whitney is still trying to process everything that’s happening around her , which is completely understandable. But as readers , we can already see she’s far more powerful than she realizes.

I’m rooting for the moment she fully embraces who she is and steps into that power.

Because something tells me she’s going to need every bit of it.
