It has now been 25 years since Derek Haas made his feature writing debut in the Billy Zane-led TV movie, Invincible, and Haas has since become one of the most important TV scribes in the history of network television. Haas followed his work on Invincible by penning the script for other projects like 2 Fast 2 Furious, 3:10 to Yuma, and Overdrive, but the last few years are when he’s really carved out a name for himself as a great writer. Last year, Haas wrote and created all episodes of the Jensen Ackles-led crime series, Countdown, which was canceled after only one season by Prime Video. This certainly stung, considering there were possible plans for future seasons, but Haas has a trio of shows to fall back on that will keep him occupied.
Together with Michael Brandt, Derek Haas is the leading writer and creator of all three shows in the One Chicago trio. “One Chicago” refers to three interweaving procedurals, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D., which have each been on the air for over 10 years now. Before One Chicago returns later this year on October 7, NBC has just dealt yet another harsh blow to long-time fans of the series. News broke this afternoon that Joe Minoso, who plays Joe Cruz in Chicago Fire, is officially leaving the show in Season 15. Minoso will return to wrap up Cruz’s arc in the new season, but by the time the finale is here, his time on the show will be over. Minoso has starred in over 290 episodes of Chicago Fire dating back to 2012, and is one of the few stars who has been around on the show since the earliest days.
