‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Actor James Handy Allegedly Stabbed to Death by Girlfriend’s Son
A tragedy has struck Hollywood.
James Handy—who appeared in films such as Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji—was fatally stabbed in Los Angeles on the morning of June 3, with the suspect identified as his girlfriend’s son Michael Gledhill, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The actor was 81 years old.
Police reported that West Valley area patrol officers responded around 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a person stating, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
“Upon their arrival, officers found 81-year-old James Handy in the front yard of the residence, unconscious and suffering from a stab wound to his chest,” a June 4 press release from the LAPD stated. “The victim was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced deceased.”
The LAPD indicated that the suspect, Gledhill, is a 44-year-old resident of the L.A. neighborhood of Tarzana.
“The suspect flagged down nearby responding officers, informing them that he was the one they were searching for,” the release added. “The suspect lives at the location with his mother, who is the victim’s girlfriend. Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and there appears to be no danger to the public at this time.”
