Luke Bryan candidly shared that he had not intended to spend his morning engrossed in the live stream of Katy Perry’s space flight — yet, like many viewers, he found himself captivated by the extraordinary event.

During his recent guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the American Idol judge recounted how he unexpectedly tuned into Blue Origin’s groundbreaking NS-31 launch. This historic mission featured Perry soaring into space alongside a remarkable all-female crew, including notable figures such as Lauren Sánchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, Gayle King, and Kerianne Flynn, all making significant contributions to the advancement of space exploration.

“I was out on my morning walk around the farm, which usually leads to scrolling through Instagram and other social media,” Bryan explained. “I stumbled upon Perry’s posts, announcing that the launch was set for 8:30 Central, and I completely got caught up in the excitement of the moment.”

The country music star revealed that he remained glued to the entire livestream of the launch. “They were in the Rivian, making their way to the capsule, and I was just there walking, completely engrossed,” he said. “Given that it involved a friend — it’s a significant moment — I was really hoping everything would go smoothly, because there’s always that risk.”

Bryan had previously reached out to Perry with a supportive message when she announced her involvement in the space mission, expressing his excitement with a text that read, “Good luck, wow, that’s incredible that you’re getting to do that.”

Now that Perry has officially earned her title as an astronaut following the successful mission, Bryan is still contemplating whether he would take the plunge into space himself. When Kimmel inquired if he would be interested in a space journey, Bryan chuckled and replied, “I probably would give it a shot just because — you have to seize that opportunity.”

Kimmel playfully countered, saying, “No, you don’t. You’re not obligated to take that risk.”

Bryan conceded that making such a decision would involve “a delicate negotiation” with his family, adding, “I have a feeling I would get a definite no from them.”

The two shared a lighthearted moment as they joked about potential country-themed songs that could be inspired by space travel, throwing out titles like “Chicken Jockey” and “Bass Fisherman in Space.”

As the interview progressed, Bryan also touched upon his experiences with season 23 of American Idol, highlighting the impactful role Jelly Roll has played as the artist-in-residence. “When you hear Jelly Roll’s background — the fact that he didn’t truly start singing until he was 35 — his journey and success since then are just remarkable,” he shared. “He forms a genuine connection with the audience and contestants alike[with contestants].”

Carrie Underwood has also joined the judging panel this season, and Bryan expressed his appreciation for her contributions. “What she brings to the show has been incredibly special,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Bryan is gearing up for two tours this year: his annual Farm Tour, which will venture to California for the first time, and the Country Song Came On Tour. “When you pull up to see 15,000 to 20,000 fans at a real working farm, it’s a magical experience,” he reflected. “This event has become something truly meaningful to both my family and me.”

And just to confirm, he humorously admitted that he does own a helicopter, a decision he made on the advice of fellow country star Blake Shelton.
