The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to reintroduce a significant villain whose abilities rival those of The Mad Titan, Thanos. Following Thanos’s defeat not just once, but twice, in Avengers: Endgame, Marvel Studios has been striving to fill that gap, and unfortunately, the Multiverse Saga has faced challenges in doing so.
While Kang the Conqueror was initially meant to be the primary antagonist of this saga, his narrative was truncated, leading to projects like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty being revised to focus on a new major adversary in Doctor Victor von Doom. However, Doom has barely made a significant impact in the Multiverse, leaving fans puzzled about the direction of the MCU.
Fortunately, it appears that a major villain capable of challenging Thanos is returning to the MCU in the upcoming VisionQuest series, presenting a genuine threat reminiscent of the glory days of the MCU and the Infinity Saga. It is fitting that this character originates from that era of the MCU.
Ultron Could Have Taken Thanos In The Infinity Saga
Ultron served as the main antagonist in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where Tony Stark’s efforts to create a secure program to protect Earth led to a sentient being that targeted powered individuals who seemed to attract significant threats to the planet.
Throughout that film, Ultron gained power to such an extent that it nearly destroyed Tony’s loyal AI companion, JARVIS, before escaping Stark Industries and infiltrating the vast reaches of the World Wide Web. From there, Ultron began manipulating technology worldwide before deciding to create a physical body powered by an Infinity Stone.
Although Ultron’s schemes were ultimately foiled by the Avengers, it is evident he wasn’t completely eliminated due to his impending return to the MCU. Given more time and had his plans for controlling an Infinity Stone-powered body succeeded, Ultron would have undoubtedly possessed the means and capability to defeat Thanos.
With his ability to control multiple robotic bodies simultaneously and access near-limitless knowledge resources, Ultron could have triumphed where the Avengers faltered in Avengers: Infinity War.
Ultron Will Return To The MCU In VisionQuest
VisionQuest is an upcoming MCU TV series that will follow Vision’s journey after his memories were restored in his new White Vision body at the conclusion of WandaVision. While details about the series remain scarce, it has been confirmed early in development that Ultron will also make a return.
This suggests that while Ultron was defeated in Avengers: Age of Ultron, his consciousness seems to have persisted in some form, potentially lurking within the vast information across the web before reconnecting with Vision, who took his intended body.
Evidently, there is ample potential for conflict between these two characters and also possibilities for them to collaborate depending on how the story unfolds. However, one thing is certain: Ultron’s return introduces intriguing questions and opportunities for the future of the MCU.
