In an industry too cluttered for new films or shows to organically stand out, Netflix lucked out recently when multiple news portals reported that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is eyeing a return to acting with one of the streamer’s most popular series. The news coincidentally dropped just ahead of the show’s long-awaited Season 2 return. Markle will reportedly join the cast for the third season, but neither her casting nor the third season renewal has officially been confirmed by Netflix yet. Nevertheless, this was exactly the kind of attention that the series in question needed ahead of its return in a few days. Executive-produced by Guy Ritchie, who also directed some episodes, the show’s first season premiered in 2024.
The series serves as a spin-off of Ritchie’s 2019 gangster thriller The Gentlemen, which featured an ensemble cast including Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Jeremy Strong, Michelle Dockery, and others. The Gentlemen was seen as a return to form for Ritchie, grossing $115 million worldwide against a reported budget of $22 million. It was released in the same year as Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin remake, which remains his highest-grossing film with a global haul of more than $1 billion. Since then, the prolific British filmmaker has had numerous ups and downs, both critically and commercially. He has, however, found considerable success at home thanks to shows such as the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand, the Prime Video series Young Sherlock, and Netflix’s The Gentlemen spin-off.

Every Sheridan protagonist has a line. What matters is what happens after it’s crossed.
A</spand Quietly, decisively, and in a way that sends a message to everyone watching.

Where do you feel most in your element?
Sheridan’s worlds are as much about place as they are about people.
