Muse Returns in Born Again Season 3, Says Daredevil Boss

The Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again teased a transformation that nobody saw coming.

Heather Glenn reaches for Muse’s mask, pulling it on and completing a psychological spiral that redefines what the villain truly represents. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has now opened up about why Muse is returning not from the dead, but through one of his victims.

Why Heather Glenn becomes Muse for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 explained

Scardapane confessed the original Muse storyline lacked the weight it deserved. Production constraints during the first season meant the character never fully landed with the impact the creative team intended. “This was a weird one because it had to do with a plot line that we inherited, that I felt we didn’t do justice to: the original Muse storyline in season 1,” Daredevil boss told Entertainment Weekly. “Because of what was filmed and what wasn’t filmed and what we could use and not use, it didn’t have the heft that I thought Muse deserved,” he added.

Rather than resurrect the original killer, the writers mapped a more disturbing path. Heather Glenn, the psychologist who entered Matt’s life as a blind date, was uniquely positioned to inherit the mantle. Her proximity to masked people, both vigilantes and monsters, warped her perspective in ways that made the transformation feel inevitable.

Scardapane zeroed in on the psychology behind the fall. She killed Muse to save Daredevil, and that act broke something fundamental inside her. “In her mind, she started to confuse serial killers with vigilantes and became a press mouthpiece for Fisk,” Scardapane explained. “What happens if she literally puts on that trauma, and that trauma solves a lot of her conflict?” the creator added.

The character’s descent tracks cleanly through the season. Her relationship with Matt crumbled under the weight of his double life. Abandoned and angry, she found purpose under Fisk’s wing, tampering with psych evaluations and physically lashing out. Each step pulled her closer to the mask waiting in the finale.

What excites Scardapane most is how earned the turn feels. Unlike a villain dropped into the narrative fully formed, Heather’s corruption developed in plain sight. “I don’t think anybody’s prepared exactly for where this is going, and that’s still fun.”
