Vine? More like Divine.

Nearly a decade after the six-second looping video app shut down, a new one—which is not affiliated with Vine or its former owner Twitter (now X)—dropped more than its croissant into the app store Aug. 20.

Divine’s website shared that it “aims to bring back joy and creativity to short-form video,” adding that “unlike traditional social media platforms, [it] does not store your data on centralized servers.”

“Much like podcasting, this gives content creators full ownership over their content,” the company—which launched to the general public nine months after an earlier beta release in November—explained. “No single company controls or can delete your content.”

Divine—inspired by the former short-form video app—emphasized its commitment to provide “content that is free from AI slop.” It also asserted that unlike TikTok, there is no algorithmic manipulation, meaning users can control their own feeds.

And signing up is easier than chillin’ in a hot tub five feet apart. After all, accounts use key pairs through its server, rather than an email or phone number. However, there is no account recovery, so without the private key, access is permanently lost.
