Blumhouse achieved another success at the box office this weekend, with the Jessica Chastain-led Other Mommy earning a strong $27.5 million. This amount slightly exceeded our earlier predictions, despite universally poor reviews. It performed similarly well internationally, grossing $17.7 million for a total of $45.2 million globally. However, it is unlikely to maintain this momentum in its second week, having received a rare D+ CinemaScore, indicating that audiences are actively disliking the film.
Will Other Mommy crash in its second weekend?
What kind of decline can we expect in week two? For context, Verity, which was highly anticipated, received a poor C+ CinemaScore and dropped a steep 64% in its second week to $11.48 million. Other Mommy is expected to decline by at least 70%. However, like Verity, it will still turn a significant profit. In fact, Verity is undoubtedly a hit, with its domestic total reaching $53.8 million. Notably, it has also performed well internationally, with its current international total at $113.9 million.
Resident Evil and Heart of the Beast score overseas
Resident Evil continues to perform well, dropping only 34% this weekend to earn $8.35 million, bringing its domestic total to $136.5 million. Notably, it opened in Asia this weekend and had an impressive international weekend of $54.3 million, leading to a global box office total of $320 million. Could a finish between $400–500 million be possible?
Another film that performed better internationally than domestically is the Brad Pitt-led Heart of the Beast. It has done decently in the U.S., earning an additional $7.1 million this weekend—a mere 35% drop—bringing its domestic total just shy of $50 million. It has fared much better worldwide, where it has become a significant hit with a global total of $131 million.
The Social Reckoning and Forgotten Island struggle
After Digger flopped last weekend, all eyes were on another prestige title, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning. While its $30 million budget will prevent it from incurring too much loss, it opened with a disappointing $5.5 million.
Another failure has been DreamWorks’ animated feature Forgotten Island, which earned $4.5 million this weekend for a domestic total of $30.2 million. Its performance overseas has been even worse, with its global total standing at only $50.2 million.
A24 has found success with the Robert Pattinson-led Primetime, which grossed $4 million this weekend, pushing its domestic total past $41 million.

Digger tumbles as The Odyssey returns to IMAX
The Tom Cruise-led Digger fell sharply by 60% in its second week, posting a weekend gross of $3.2 million. Overseas, it did not perform much better, earning $6.4 million. Globally, it has only made $35.3 million, positioning it as an astronomical box office failure—by far the worst of Tom Cruise’s career.
Angel Studios’ Western remake Angel and the Badman played to mostly empty theaters, grossing just over $2 million. It is likely to perform better on streaming platforms.
Finally, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey made a box office comeback this weekend, with its $2 million gross marking a 54% increase from last week. This resurgence is due to WB relinquishing Digger‘s IMAX screens, allowing The Odyssey to return—and it continues to sell out 70mm screenings. Its domestic total stands at $622 million while its overseas earnings reach $1.779 billion.
Street Fighter and Whalefall arrive next weekend
The upcoming weekend is packed with releases including Street Fighter and Whalefall, both aiming for significant impact at the box office, while A24 hopes for an arthouse hit with its meta Elizabeth Holmes film, You Can See Everything. Which one are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments.
