Harry believes that Diana, had she been alive, would have “saw it coming” regarding his and Meghan’s choice to seek independence beyond the palace walls, expressing to Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that he “certainly felt her presence throughout this whole process.”
He noted that he had Diana’s tangible support, stating that without his inheritance, “we would not have been able to do this.”
However, Harry later acknowledged that his mother would have been “heartbroken” over the rift between him and William.
In an interview on Good Morning America in 2023, he remarked, “I think she would be looking at it long term to know that there are certain things that we need to go through to be able to heal the relationship.”
The brothers have only met a few times since the Sussexes relocated to California in 2020, including a reunion in 2021 for what would have been their mother’s 60th birthday to unveil a statue of her located in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.
