Last September, one of the great modern period dramas came to a tearjerking end as Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale aired in global theaters. After fifteen years, the door was closed on the story of the Crawleys and their staff, and all their many personal ups and downs. Earning over $100 million at the global box office, the movie earned near-perfect reviews from critics and audiences alike, with most seeing it as the perfect send-off for Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael, Hugh Bonneville, and co.
From one beloved British institution to another, Bonneville will now be turning his attention, following this Grand Finale, to the great work of Arthur Conan Doyle. The Paddington star, according to a new report, is about to lend his easily recognizable voice to a new podcast version of the Sherlock Holmes story, The Hound of the Baskervilles, which is set to release twice-weekly on all podcast platforms, including Apple and Spotify, beginning 27 April. Early access on April 23 will be available for Noiser+ subscribers.
Featuring Bonneville as narrator, alongside a brand-new score, special artwork, and immersive sound design, this exciting new podcast is not to be missed. In a statement about his next project, Bonneville said, “There’s a reason this story has never left us, and Arthur Conan Doyle knew exactly what he was doing when he wrote it to land in nine parts. Getting to bring that structure back, to let listeners feel those cliffhangers the way Victorian readers felt them, is a rare opportunity. I wanted to honour the material and make it feel alive for new audiences today.”
