Shorts with a Dressier Touch

Outfit Details: Valentino Shirt, Chan Luu Shorts, Hermes Bag (similar, less expensive here), Miu Miu Flats (sold out, similar here and here), Sherman Field Necklace

On the hottest days, I naturally reach for shorts, making dressing easy. However, this summer, I found myself attracted to them for different occasions. The pairs I love are those I want to wear to dinner when the light dims, and they still feel appropriate with bare legs in August. A small change in fabric, cut, or proportion can transform a silhouette that everyone considers casual.

I’m eager to continue embracing this idea into September when the days remain warm and I’m not ready to let go of my summer tan. A longer line just above the knee, a fuller shape, a little shine, or embroidered trim makes the entire outfit feel polished enough for evening while retaining the ease that makes shorts appealing. This fresh perspective on a true summer staple allows me to enjoy the season without an abrupt farewell.
