Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell’s newest movie has just gotten a massive new update.
New footage of The Great Beyond has been released at CinemaCon at the Warner Bros. panel, revealing a first look at J.J. Abrams’ first directorial feature film since 2019. Written, directed, and produced by Abrams, the sci-fi fantasy movie stars Ortega and Powell as the main characters, with plot details having been kept under wraps up until now.
During CinemaCon, J.J. Abrams arrived, discussing his vision for The Great Beyond and why he wanted to tackle an original story as his return to directing:
I’ve been very lucky to work on franchises that are bigger than all of us, but at a certain point I needed to get back to original stories.
Then, first footage of The Great Beyond was shown. The clip begins with an H.G. Wells quote before seeing Powell and Ortega’s characters meeting in a store together. Other scenes reveal the pair “are looking for something pure,” though what remains unexplained. Samuel L. Jackson and Emma Mackey are also shown, the latter with a mysterious rock.
Check out a full description of the footage below:
We see old technology powering up. An old computer is loading. Then the words come up: “There is, though I do not know how there is or how it may be, another world out of sight and sound. – H.G. Wells” Glen Powell is seen meeting Jenna Ortega in a store. We see Sam Jackson as well. Powell turns on what appears to be an old radio. Ortega narrates, saying “We are looking for something pure, something we can’t find here.” Emma Mackey is seen holding a glowing red rock. Powell is then seen running down a hallway before the logo comes up.
More to come…
