Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is providing fans with another opportunity to catch up before its next chapter begins. Season 27, which concluded its NBC run earlier this year, will soon be available for streaming, allowing viewers to revisit Olivia Benson’s latest challenges before the series transitions into Season 28.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 arrives on Hulu ahead of Season 28
According to the official press release, the Hulu release is set for September 8, making the 21-episode season easily accessible ahead of the show’s next broadcast return. Fans should note that Season 28 premieres on October 8 on NBC, with episodes also available through Peacock. The Hulu release pertains only to Season 27, not the forthcoming season.
Season 27 subjected Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Benson to one of her most challenging periods yet. Her storyline included an arrest, a suspension, and ongoing pressure from Chief of Detectives Kathryn Tynan, generating significant professional turmoil for the longtime SVU leader. Kelli Giddish also returned as Detective Amanda Rollins, this time as a series regular after previously departing from the main cast.
The Season 27 cast features Ice-T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr., Kevin Kane as Detective Terry Bruno, and Aimé Donna Kelly as Captain Renee Curry. Meanwhile, Octavio Pisano and Juliana Martinez did not continue as regular cast members in their roles as Detective Joe Velasco and Junior Detective Kate Silva.
Season 28 will also see the return of Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler for multiple episodes, subject to scheduling. Stabler originally departed after 12 seasons, then made a comeback in Season 22 and later starred in Law & Order: Organized Crime. That spinoff concluded after five seasons, potentially allowing Meloni more opportunities to appear on SVU.
The upcoming season continues SVU’s record-setting run as the longest-running show in the Law & Order franchise. Additionally, Benson and Stabler’s long-anticipated dynamic remains one of the series’ most significant attractions.
