Spider-Man Nicolas Cage Set to Return in 2027 After Spider-Noir

Spider-Noir marks the debut of Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly, and after the Marvel hero’s initial adventures, fans will see more of Cage as Spider-Man next year. Cage is an actor known for his incredible versatility, able to immerse himself in the characters he portrays. Fear is not something he embodies.

Cage is always willing to take bold risks, and in Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, those risks become tangible. All eight episodes of the 2026 Prime Video series have been released on the streaming platform, featuring The Spider, this standalone universe’s interpretation of Spider-Man, facing off against several villains from the Marvel hero’s Rogues’ Gallery.

While it was thrilling to witness villains like Sandman, Silvermane, and Tombstone, along with fresh takes on Black Cat and Robbie Robertson, the standout character in Spider-Noir is undoubtedly Ben Reilly. Cage is given complete freedom to explore this aging private investigator role. There’s even an episode where he moves like a spider.

For a long-standing franchise that has seen numerous Spider-Man films focusing on Peter Parker’s journey, Ben Reilly’s unique portrayal in Spider-Noir feels refreshing. Unfortunately, as of now, there is no official confirmation regarding a second season of Spider-Noir. However, fans can take comfort in knowing that Cage will return as Spider-Man in 2027.

The coming year will see Cage return to his roots within the Spider-Man franchise. Before he brought Ben Reilly to life in Spider-Noir, he voiced a version of Peter Parker in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That character was known as Spider-Man Noir, closely resembling the hero’s original alternate self from the comics, while Spider-Noir takes more creative liberties. Despite both superheroes being based on the same character, the new Prime Video series exists in its own universe, entirely separate from all prior Marvel films and series.

Prime Video’s Spider-Man Series Spider-Noir Officially Marks The Start Of An Era For Black Cat

Black Cat appears in Spider-Man’s new live-action series, and the 2026 global smash hit finally starts a much-needed new era for the Marvel character.

Although Cage did not reprise his role in Miles Morales’ second animated adventure on the big screen, his Spider-Man Noir made a non-speaking cameo at the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, hinting at his appearance in the trilogy finale as part of Gwen Stacy’s team to rescue Miles. Based on that, fans can anticipate seeing Cage as Spider-Man Noir when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse releases on June 25, 2027. Hopefully, this animated film will not face further delays, allowing audiences to see Cage as Spider-Man Noir just 396 days after Prime Video’s Spider-Noir was released.

Why Spider-Noir Season 2 Needs To Happen

Cage’s return in the third Spider-Verse film has many fans excited, but it should not be his only future with Marvel. A second season of Spider-Noir is essential after the first eight episodes introduced a unique and gritty world centered around a dark detective narrative. Set in 1930s New York City and with Ben having already fought in World War I, Spider-Noir season 2 could jump forward to another global conflict, delving into what it means to be Spider-Man — The Spider — during World War II, a theme showrunner Oren Uziel expressed interest in exploring.

While it is true that season 1 of Spider-Noir ended without a clear setup for future storylines, there exists a wealth of characters from the comics for the Prime Video superhero series to adapt in season 2. Villains such as Green Goblin, Hammerhead, Mister Negative, and others would fit seamlessly into this narrative. With Cat Hardy out of the picture, perhaps the series could also explore romantic interests like Mary Jane Watson, Liz Allan, Gwen Stacy, and more. The potential for more Spider-Noir is limitless and would be highly welcomed by fans.
