Tom Holland has shared his thoughts on the debate of Spider-Man vs. Superman. The web-slinger has faced many formidable villains in the MCU, but fans often wonder if he could ever defeat Superman. While the British actor believes that the Man of Steel would typically win, he did mention one scenario where Spider-Man might have a chance.
During an interview with Heart, where he interacted with young fans, Holland was asked if Spider-Man could defeat the Man of Steel. He initially responded with a simple “No,” which made his co-stars laugh in agreement. However, Holland later acknowledged that Spider-Man could have one significant advantage, stating, “Maybe if he had some of the Kryptonite stuff.”
When asked if he would want another superhero ally against Superman, Holland said, “If Spider-Man and Batman teamed up, if it was me and Rob [Robert Pattinson] vs. David [Superman], I think we could beat him.” He humorously added, “I don’t know how helpful Rob would be.”
Discussing having Deadpool or Iron Man on his side, Holland remarked, “Either of those characters would be super helpful.” Despite their assistance, Holland believes that “Superman still clinches [the fight].”
Why Batman gives Spider-Man a fighting chance against Superman
The reason Holland chose Batman as an ally may stem from Batman’s history of utilizing Kryptonite against Superman. Over the years, Batman has discovered various strategies to confront Superman through meticulous planning and the use of Kryptonite.
Their rivalry was showcased in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Batman employed Kryptonite weapons to weaken Superman and nearly triumphed over him. This likely explains why Holland selected Batman as his first choice.
Holland also recognized Tony Stark’s technology and intellect as significant advantages. He concurred with Zendaya’s comments, saying, “If anyone could locate or even create Kryptonite, it would be Iron Man.” Nevertheless, he emphasized that both heroes would still face challenges against an opponent as powerful as Superman.
Holland’s upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
