District Attorney Sim Gill announced that Taylor Frankie Paul, who faced allegations of domestic violence, has been cleared. Amid the ongoing investigation, her show The Bachelorette Season 22, which was supposed to air on March 22, was canceled. This happened when, ahead of its premiere, a 2023 clip of her allegedly being violent towards ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen emerged.
No charges filed against The Bachelorette’s Taylor Frankie Paul
DA Gill declared that the court has decided to dismiss two domestic violence claims against Paul. He said, “After reviewing reports and evidence submitted to the Draper Police Department and West Jordan Police Department, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file charges against Taylor Frankie Paul” (via Deadline).
In letters to Draper and West Jordan police departments, the prosecutor stated, “The complainant in these cases reported several incidents – some of which occurred more than three years ago. Any incidents of misdemeanor offenses which are alleged to have occurred more than two years ago are barred by the statute of limitations.” However, they did review the incidents that happened within the legal timeframe, he further stated.
“Several incidents that were submitted do not rise to the level of criminal offenses. The remaining incidents lack sufficient evidence to support filing criminal charges where the State must be able to prove such allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. Such incidents lack specificity as to when and what actually occurred or corroboration,” the DA added.
This comes after a Utah district court judge’s previous ruling that she can’t spend “unsupervised” time with her child with Mortensen. Paul and Mortensen will come before Third District Court Commissioner Russell Minas on April 30 for a protective orders hearing.
In a 2023 clip, released by TMZ, Paul was seemingly physically attacking Mortensen and throwing stools towards him. The incident allegedly happened in front of their daughter. After the clip surfaced, ABC immediately released a statement calling off The Bachelorette Season 22.
