The Beekeeper 2 has been in development for quite some time, but soon we will see Jason Statham face a new group of villains with Timo Tjahjanto now directing. The trailer is set to premiere tomorrow, but the official Cinemark account on Threads has unveiled the poster ahead of the trailer, which you can view below!
CinemaCon Footage
During the Amazon MGM Studios panel at this year’s CinemaCon, we also previewed some footage from The Beekeeper 2, where Statham confronts Jeremy Irons’ Westwyld (with a Cybertruck!), only to find themselves on the same side (sort of) when it’s revealed that all the remaining Beekeepers have gone rogue, kidnapping the president and attempting to seize control of the country. Everything we loved about the first film is amplified here, with more bee puns and even a scene where Statham heals himself by covering his body in bees inside a peculiar healing tube. He also employs bees to eliminate some adversaries. It appears that Statham and his new director, Timo Tjahjanto, are a solid pairing.
Beekeeper 2 Details
Statham will reprise his role as Adam Clay, “a retired clandestine human intelligence operative who seeks revenge after his kind-hearted landlady falls victim to a phishing scam that robs millions from a charity she manages.” Jeremy Irons will also return as Wallace Westwyld, the former CIA Director, now head of security for Danforth Enterprises.
David Ayer directed the first film, but Timo Tjahjanto, who recently helmed Nobody 2, has taken over for the sequel. Kurt Wimmer has returned to write the script. Tjahjanto mentioned that he was attracted to The Beekeeper sequel because the character reminds him of one of his favorite Marvel characters: The Punisher. “I’m definitely drawn to the Beekeeper series just because when I watched it, I always felt that, ‘Wow, this is essentially Statham playing one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe,’ which is The Punisher,” he said. “If I can’t make The Punisher film, if the gods of film aren’t allowing me to do a Punisher film yet, then I’ll turn Adam Clay into my own version of The Punisher. Which is great! I think Statham has that quality in him. He has that very stoic Frank Castle-esque quality to him. And I love that Adam Clay is definitely a guy who is quite colorful in his choice of violence. He gets really, really creative with his violence.”
