This weekend, fans were treated to unexpected surprises not just from Netflix but also from Blumhouse. During the exciting CCXP Festival held in Mexico City on Sunday evening, Blumhouse unveiled an intense trailer and a visually striking poster for The Black Phone 2. This upcoming sequel follows the chilling narrative of Scott Derrickson’s 2021 horror film, which starred Ethan Hawke in the haunting role of The Grabber, a child serial killer who uses a mysterious phone within the sinister confines of his basement where he keeps his victims.
Adapted from a gripping short story by Joe Hill, The Black Phone focuses on the harrowing tale of Finney Shaw, a quiet yet resourceful 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic murderer and confined in a soundproof basement. In this terrifying situation, shouting for help proves futile. However, when a disconnected phone on the wall unexpectedly starts to ring, Finney is shocked to discover he can hear the voices of the killer’s past victims. These restless spirits are determined to prevent Finney from suffering the same grisly fate as they did.
The trailer for The Black Phone 2 delivers a delightfully spooky experience, showcasing Hawke’s Grabber character returning in an intriguing metaphysical manner, at least initially. As the plot thickens and the mystery surrounding the Grabber’s ultimate fate unfolds, Finney finds himself confronting the killer he believed to be long gone, leading to a suspenseful and terrifying face-off.
Scott Derrickson collaborated with C. Robert Cargill to pen the screenplay for the original film, and they are both back on board for The Black Phone 2. Alongside them, Jason Blum and Ryan Turek of Blumhouse are producing this highly anticipated sequel. The film will see the return of Mason Thames from How to Train Your Dragon as Finney Shaw, Madeleine McGraw from Secrets of Sulphur Springs as Finney’s sister, Gwen, and Jeremy Davies from Justified as their father, Terrence. Additionally, Ethan Hawke will reprise his iconic role as the notorious child killer, The Grabber. Miguel Mora, who appeared in the first film, will return as the brother of one of The Grabber’s victims. Meanwhile, Demián Bichir from The Hateful Eight will portray a camp supervisor, and Arianna Rivas from Prom Dates will play Bichir’s niece. New cast members include Anna Lore from Final Destination: Bloodlines, Maev Beaty from Beau is Afraid, and Graham Abbey from Under the Banner of Heaven.

“Ethan Hawke returns to portray the most ominous character of his career as The Grabber, who seeks vengeance against Finn (played by Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by tormenting Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (played by Madeleine McGraw). As Finn, now 17, grapples with life after his harrowing captivity, the determined 15-year-old Gwen starts receiving disconcerting calls in her dreams from the black phone, accompanied by disturbing visions of three boys being hunted at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Driven to uncover the truth and put an end to their suffering, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a raging winter storm. There, she stumbles upon a shocking connection between The Grabber and her own family’s dark history. Together, they must confront a killer who has become even more formidable in death, revealing a deeper significance to their lives than they ever anticipated.”
