This Song Is Over: The Who’s North American Farewell Tour

The Who is set to bid farewell to North America with their highly anticipated This Song Is Over farewell tour, a significant event for fans of the legendary band. This 16-date tour is scheduled to kick off on August 16 in Sunrise, Florida, and will culminate on September 28 in Las Vegas. Below, you can find the complete tour itinerary, showcasing the band’s nostalgic journey across North America.

The tour derives its name from a track featured on the band’s iconic 1971 album Who’s Next, highlighting the enduring legacy of The Who in the rock music landscape.

“Well, all good things must come to an end. It is a poignant time,” Pete Townshend remarked in a statement announcing the tour. “For me, playing to American audiences and fans in Canada has always been an incredible experience… I must say, though the road has not always been enjoyable for me, it is usually easy: the best job I could ever have had. I keep coming back. Every time I perform, I meet new fans and feel renewed energy. Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to dedicate ourselves to this heartfelt farewell to all our loyal fans, and hopefully to new ones who might want to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years. This tour will celebrate fond memories, love, and laughter. Make sure to join us!”

“To me, America has always been a remarkable place,” Roger Daltrey added. “The cultural differences have had a tremendous impact on me; this was the land of the possible. It’s not easy to close this significant chapter of my life that touring with The Who has represented. Thank you for always being there for us, and I look forward to seeing you one last time.”

The Who famously wrapped up their first farewell tour over 40 years ago, concluding on December 17, 1982, in Toronto. Seven years later, they embarked on a widely criticized reunion tour that featured an extravagant 15-piece band.

Despite the passing of bassist John Entwistle in 2002, surviving founding members Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey have continued to tour together, delighting fans while also releasing two new studio albums: Endless Wire in 2006 and Who in 2019.

Last March, Townshend hinted that a farewell tour was the next logical step for the band. “It feels to me like there’s one thing The Who can do,” he shared with The New York Times, “and that’s a final tour where we perform in every territory around the globe and then gracefully step away. Honestly, I don’t derive much excitement from performing anymore. If I’m completely honest, I’ve been touring primarily for the financial benefits.”
