Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man has appeared in various suits throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is important to note that wearing a costume for 12 hours while filming intense action sequences is challenging for any actor. However, the latest upgraded suit in Spider-Man: Brand New Day alleviates one of Zendaya‘s strangest fears.
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Holland was shown an old promotional video for Spider-Man: Homecoming featuring Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. In the clip, she expressed her concern that Holland might get sick inside his tight Spider-Man mask, potentially leaving him trapped in the one-piece costume.
Reflecting on the past interview, Holland admitted that this concern had crossed his mind as well. “It was definitely something that crossed my mind,” he said, adding, “I think that in reality I knew that if that did happen, I could pull the eyes out, grab the eye tray, and I could just rip… There’s a rip cord. There’s an emergency… It’s not designed that way, but I’m pretty sure I could have done that.”
Fortunately, that’s no longer a concern. The British actor explained that after collaborating with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he recognized how much more comfortable their suits were. This aligns with another interview where Holland mentioned that their suits had zips everywhere and allowed them to easily remove their masks.
“Now in the new suit… I have a zip at the back of my head which allows me to take the mask off to breathe,” he revealed. “Imagine that. You can actually breathe.”

The interview also discussed the highly anticipated Spider-Man symbiote suit. Referring to Tobey’s black suit in Spider-Man 3, Holland expressed his admiration for that design and stated that bringing such a design to live action would be challenging.
“I think if we ever got to do a black suit in Spider-Man, I don’t know how we would tackle that challenge because they did it so well in the game,” he said. “I don’t know how you make a suit that’s similar to the one in the game without having a CG component.”
When the discussion turned to rumors about Spider-Man possibly receiving a symbiote suit in Avengers: Secret Wars, Holland quickly dismissed them. “I swear to you, I have no idea what Secret Wars is about.”
For now, Marvel fans can only wait to see if the symbiote suit makes its debut in the MCU. Meanwhile, they can catch Spider-Man: Brand New Day in theaters tomorrow, July 31, 2026.
