Twilight Princess Switch 2 Remaster Teaser Divides Players

Few games in The Legend of Zelda series have been received with as much excitement as Twilight Princess, as fans finally got the gritty, realistic entry that they had been waiting for. It remains a real high point for many in the community, and with the franchise celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, thoughts have returned to older releases once again.

A big part of that has been confirmation of the Ocarina of Time remake, which is set to launch later this year, bringing back one of the most popular games of all time in a whole new form. As with all of these things, though, sheer excitement causes conversations to pop up about what else might be coming down the pipeline, but fans can’t quite decide on the best approach for Twilight Princess‘ return.

Over on Reddit, one user shared translated rumors from leaker Nash Weedle, in which he claimed there may well be a “new” version of Twilight Princess headed to the Switch 2. The full breakdown of what Weedle said reads as follows:

Zelda: Twilight Princess (until not so long ago) I hadn’t heard anything about it, but it seems a new version could arrive at some point. I had already commented a while back that I wasn’t expecting either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess if they couldn’t incorporate something more into them, and now with the Switch 2, it’s possible. For Twilight Princess, strong rumors have reached me, but for Wind Waker, it seems to have been left in limbo.”

It’s a very interesting prospect, and fans were keen to share their thoughts on exactly what that could look like, and how necessary they feel the game’s return is.

Wind Waker and TP HD are ‘break-glass when the quarter looks awful’ ports. And they will be on Switch 1,” one comment read.

“Reading it like this, I don’t know why, but I could see a WW/TP double pack next year before the Zelda movie. Just like the Galaxy 1+2 double pack before the Mario Galaxy movie,” another added.

While a third said, “A Fall Ocarina and a late spring TP to wrap up the 40th anniversary of Zelda makes sense. Since Nintendo doesn’t exactly do calendar year celebrations, it seems with the Mario 40th and Zelda 40th. Still, whatever happened to the HD WW and TP ports to the Switch?”

Whatever Nintendo does have planned for Twilight Princess‘ future, it would make a lot of business sense to bring a version out for the Switch 2 while excitement around the franchise is so high. Of course, tying it to the release of the movie could also work well, but there are all sorts of plans they could feasibly go with this year.
