Before Marvel ever took over the film space, they were excelling in the television space through animated shows like the ’60s Spider-Man series. Nowadays, they still have plenty of success on the silver screen, especially with how much the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Disney+ have been thriving as of late, particularly after a rougher start post-WandaVision.
While not every Disney+ MCU series has been a huge success, they’ve had significantly better luck in these last few years than they had when they were under the direction of the previous Disney CEO, who had an unfortunate “quantity over quality” mindset. Moving forward, Marvel Studios’ run on television is only going to continue getting better, too, thanks to the awesome content coming to small screens all over the world. Which are the most anticipated, though? All of them are in some way, shape, or form, but some are definitely more favored than others.

‘Marvel Zombies’ Season 2 (2027–2028)

One of the only products to actually spin out of What If…? is none other than Marvel Zombies, based on the hit comic book title of the same name, written by Robert Kirkman. Unlike said comic, however, the television series had a pretty mixed reception. While it feels different from a lot of Marvel shows, thanks to how singular it feels from the rest of the MCU’s content, that didn’t save it from the issues it suffered from that kept it from being exceptional. It had far too short an episode count, a half-baked storyline, and minimal backstory that could have truly benefited the series’ plot. With how beloved the Marvel Zombies (2005) comic book series is, people genuinely want this show to succeed and become everything that made the source material so lovable and memorable.
It was good enough for a second season to be warranted, though. Confirmed on April 6th, 2026, Marvel Zombies will be returning to Disney+ sometime between 2027 and 2028. There may not be a large number of people abundantly excited about its return, but it’s worth looking forward to in hopes that it improves upon what genuinely worked with the first season. It’s also worth getting excited about the return of this show’s great animation, voice acting, and intense action scenes — Blade (Todd Williams) specifically getting some great sequences. If Marvel Studios and Marvel Animation can take what they’ve learned from Season 1 and improve on those aspects for the second season, there’s a good chance that Marvel Zombies has a better shot at success moving forward (aka, please give us more episodes, guys).

‘X-Men ’97’ Season 3 (2027)

The first season of X-Men ’97 was one of Marvel Studios’ most successful shows to date when it aired, being a continuation of the legendary X-Men: The Animated Series. This should’ve meant that the result of Season 2 was going to be just as good, right? Well, it was at first, but as the series went on, people poked quite a few holes in it that led to a more negative reception than the first season. Many felt that the Apocalypse (Ross Marquand) storyline was vastly undercooked, certain characters’ plots got screwed over by the inclusion of others’ that felt a tad forced, and most importantly, the writing quality significantly decreased in certain spots that were rewritten by the Season 3 team.
That’s right, after the firing of X-Men ’97‘s showrunner, Beau DeMayo, in March of 2024, they decided to keep the show going with new writers for Season 3. When it came to the production of Season 2, they kept some of what DeMayo wrote but also rewrote a lot (partially because they cut the missing tenth episode), utilizing the Season 3 team — confirmed by DeMayo himself. Unfortunately for Marvel Studios, it is very clear what was rewritten simply due to the new writing team not having the same style and substance (regardless of what got DeMayo fired, which was for a valid reason, as far as everyone knows). This has led to mixed anticipation for Season 3. The third entry is quite anticipated yes but not necessarily for all the right reasons. While many just want to see more X-Men content, there are a large number of people who are anticipating it to see if it’ll hold the same quality as this recent season’s rewrites.
