On July 21, a major game is set to arrive on Xbox Game Pass, and it’s definitely worth your attention. Each month, new titles are added to Game Pass, refreshing the catalogue and keeping longtime subscribers engaged. This month has already seen several new games join the lineup, along with the 1.0 update for the popular title Palworld.
Following a series of new additions during the week of July 13, another significant release is coming on the 21st. If you missed it when it was launched on Steam two years ago, here’s why you should take notice now.
The Planet Crafter is an open-world survival game developed and published by Miju Games on April 10, 2024, and it will be available on Game Pass starting July 21, 2026. As suggested by its title, players assume the role of an astronaut sent to a harsh planet, tasked with creating the necessary infrastructure for human survival.
If this sounds reminiscent of No Man’s Sky, that’s because there are notable similarities. However, in Planet Crafter, the emphasis shifts from space exploration to the various ways you can alter a single planet’s surface.
There are numerous methods to transform the environment: players will collect minerals and other resources to construct machines or expand their base, as well as terraform the planet. You can establish areas with atmospheric pressure to raise temperatures, making it suitable for plant life, or develop a biosphere where you can safely remove your helmet and breathe.
Unlike many survival games, combat is not a necessity in Planet Crafter. Instead, players scan the DNA of alien creatures and later use this information to bioengineer their own animals. With the recent update 2.0, players can also acquire a jetpack for their rover, explore a new biome, access new decorations for their shelter, and more.
In an impressive review scoring 8 out of 10, Screen Rant’s Carrie Lambertsen described The Planet Crafter as “a rewarding and immersive terraforming experience.” She highlighted the game’s cooperative features: “Multiplayer enhances the experience further, allowing groups of friends to work on individual projects side by side or focus together on achieving goals.”
With a strong positive reception on Steam, if you’re in search of a new survival game to explore, you could do much worse than The Planet Crafter. Be sure to watch for its launch on Xbox Game Pass on July 21.
