Zombieland 1 & 2 Secure New Streaming Platform After Netflix

Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap are moving to a new streaming platform. The 2009 post-apocalyptic zombie comedy film and its 2019 sequel are currently available on Netflix, but they will be leaving the platform next month.

When will Zombieland 1 and 2 be available on HBO Max?

The two Zombieland films will start streaming on HBO Max on September 1, 2026, as reported by PC Mag. Meanwhile, What’s on Netflix indicates that the films will depart from Netflix on the same day.

Although it has been about 27 years since the first movie’s release, the Zombieland franchise continues to enjoy popularity. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the first film is based on a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The franchise features a star-studded cast including Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus, Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee, Emma Stone as Wichita / Krista, and Abigail Breslin as Little Rock.

In the original film, the four main characters form an unexpected bond during a zombie apocalypse and embark on a cross-country road trip to a rumored sanctuary. In the sequel, which Fleischer also directed, all the main stars return. This time, Columbus, Tallahassee, and Wichita journey from the White House to Graceland in search of Little Rock.

Given the critical and commercial success of Zombieland, its lasting popularity is clear. Although Double Tap did not achieve the same level of success, it performed adequately. Zombieland grossed over $102 million worldwide against a budget of $23.6 million, while the sequel earned $122 million with a higher production budget than the first film.

Additionally, the original movie currently holds an 89% approval rating, while the sequel has a 68% rating. In a review for ComingSoon regarding the original film, Brad Brevet stated, “This is a good, not great, film that feels just slightly longer than its 81-minute running time,” adding that “it satisfies its intended audience and then some.”

Other films set to release on HBO Max on September 1 include Magnolia, Saltburn, and The Revenant.
