Although Dark Matter Season 2 is yet to come out on Apple TV, the creatives behind the series already have ambitious plans for the third and final season. Notably, Apple TV hasn’t officially greenlit the sci-fi series for the next chapter.

Plans for Dark Matter Season 3 Revealed Before Season 2 Release

Dark Matter producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry discussed potential Season 3 during an interview with ScreenRant at the San Diego Comic-Con. She revealed that the team had made a three-season plan for the series when they approached Apple TV for the sophomore season.

“We designed season two, and when we were pitching it to Apple, and we were going through the process of getting it greenlit we designed the whole show to be three seasons,” Ben-Zekry said. “We see it as a trilogy and that would be such an amazing opportunity to get to end something on your own terms and having a real round and complete story.”

Ben-Zekry added that they are hopeful that it’s “something that happens. But we’re also just so excited for people to see season two because I think it’s just going to be so much fun for the fans.”

Blake Crouch created Dark Matter from his own 2016 book. The star-filled cast of the show includes Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen and alternate versions of Jason, Jennifer Connelly as Daniela Dessen, Alice Braga as Amanda Lucas, and Jimmi Simpson as Ryan Holder.

In Season 1, Jason Dessen is a physicist whose alternate version abducts him and places him in an alternate reality. Desperate to return to his own world, Jason must face almost insurmountable challenges. Meanwhile, the other Jason assimilates into the First Jason’s life, though the family starts to suspect that something is wrong.

Dark Matter Season 2 debuts on August 28, 2026, on Apple TV. Season 3 doesn’t yet have a release date.
