Clayface has revealed another unsettling glimpse of Matt Hagen’s transformation into the DCU’s iconic Batman villain. The latest poster intensifies the film’s body-horror theme, depicting Hagen’s human features disintegrating into a grotesque clay form.
Matt Hagen (played by Tom Rhys Harries) appears caught between his human identity and the creature overtaking his body. His face seems to melt into thick layers of clay, while a single eye remains visible through the distorted surface. The artwork also intertwines his changing form with a decaying Gotham skyline, creating an impression that the city is dissolving alongside him.
What is the new DCU Clayface movie about?
The new Clayface movie follows Matt Hagen, a rising actor in Gotham whose career is shattered after a violent attack leaves him disfigured. Desperate to regain his appearance, he undergoes an experimental treatment that initially restores his old face. However, the procedure also alters his body and grants him the ability to reshape himself.
James Watkins directs the film from a script by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Naomi Ackie also stars, with the story taking the DCU into body-horror territory rather than traditional superhero action. DC has characterized the film as a horror movie set within the new DC Universe.
The poster follows several other disturbing promotional images released ahead of the movie. Recent artwork has increasingly focused on Hagen’s unstable transformation instead of showcasing Clayface as a completed monster. This approach keeps his evolving identity central to the movie’s visual campaign.
Clayface is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2026. The film will introduce the classic Batman villain as a significant character in the new DCU.
