In recent years, Apple TV has emerged as one of the best value streaming services globally, and its new fantasy adaptation is finally gaining traction. Apple TV is renowned for its work on sci-fi thriller shows like Severance and Pluribus, both of which have been renewed for new seasons. The platform is also diligently working on prestige dramas such as The Morning Show and Your Friends & Neighbors, and it recently made a strategic move that elevates it to the level of its competitors. For years, Apple TV exclusively featured original movies and shows, but it has recently acquired rights to older films, including Will Smith’s sci-fi thriller, I, Robot. Even Brad Pitt’s Troy is now available to stream on Apple TV, gaining popularity ahead of the VOD premiere of The Odyssey this November.
One genre that Apple TV has not explored extensively is fantasy, where other platforms like Prime Video excel with releases such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and The Wheel of Time. The Wheel of Time is based on the acclaimed series of novels by Robert Jordan, with the series completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s passing. Apple TV has enlisted Sanderson to write the script for a movie adaptation of his beloved fantasy book, Mistborn, described as a blend of The Lord of the Rings and Dune. While there is no release date yet for Sanderson’s Mistborn movie, he recently confirmed that he has completed the first draft of the script, marking a significant step before casting begins.
