Fallout 4 is an exceptional game, and while it may not be everyone’s top choice in the series, there are still countless hours of enjoyment to be found if you give it a chance. However, with over ten years since its release, most players who intended to try it have likely experienced much of what the game offers.
Fortunately, the game’s vibrant modding community continues to enhance its longevity with new content, visual upgrades, and fresh locations to explore. Recently, another significant effort has gone live, potentially one of the most transformative changes we’ve seen for Fallout 4.
As initially reported by DSO Gaming, modder ‘Nethalythic’ has released a new download that transforms Fallout 4 into a roguelike dungeon crawler. Yes, you read that correctly, and the significant departure from the usual formula actually fits surprisingly well.
In this roguelike mode, players must battle through a series of increasingly challenging rooms filled with familiar enemies from the wasteland. Along the way, players can acquire new abilities by consuming Jabo Juice, named after YouTuber ItsJabo, whose audience contributed to designing the rooms featured in the mod.
Additionally, players will have opportunities to spend currency at shops where they can purchase legendary weapons and armor, crafting materials, and single-use items to assist in their journey. Fans of the YouTuber will also find numerous memes and references scattered throughout.
The only requirement is that players must have all existing DLC installed along with the official Creation Club plugin files for the Heavy Flamer and unique grenade launchers from the Makeshift Weapons Pack. As with all downloads on Nexus Mods, it is completely free, so there is no risk in trying it out for yourself.
With the next installment in the Fallout series still seemingly years away, projects like this one are our best hope for passing the time. Let’s hope that one of those promised remakes arrives sooner than expected since we all know Todd Howard has become a fan of surprise releases.
