Many Final Fantasy games have set templates for other RPGs that followed. While Final Fantasy has faced significant competition, the immense popularity of the series has led to its mainstream recognition, making it easy to showcase those inspirations. However, there is much more to explore within that formula, and studios will continue to innovate on (and in some cases, surpass) Final Fantasy in the years ahead.
Before we see numerous RPGs enter the market, you can currently play one on Steam that perfectly merges Final Fantasy and Guitar Hero. Given how it plays out, it works much better than you might expect.
Nocturne Is A Rhythm-Based RPG
If you’re interested in rhythm games, consider checking out Nocturne, which is set to release in September. The premise is straightforward: “The afterlife is now digital. Discover that eternal life comes with sacrifice in a genre-defying RPG with unique rhythm combat.”
Throughout the narrative, you will embark on an adventure featuring a “100,000-word” story, a campaign lasting over 10 hours, and 101 playable tracks. Nocturne aims to be accessible, offering six difficulty options. The contrast between easy and expert levels is significant, according to the chart on the official page.
The concept involves hitting notes to attack and achieve critical hits, while missing notes allows enemies to counterattack. You will enhance everything through RPG mechanics, including a leveling system, stats, and equipment support. Bosses are included, along with cutscenes that advance the story.
The highlight is the inclusion of an Arcade mode where you can replay “any of the 101 original tracks” in a high-score attack rush after defeating enemies throughout the story. Additionally, boss music was recorded by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra, adding extra flair.
You Can Try Nocturne For Free
A demo for Nocturne is currently available if you want to try it before its release on September 24. This new demo features a different Chapter 1 compared to the previous public build and includes a playable section of Chapter 2.
The Arcade mode is active in this new demo and incorporates live orchestral recordings into the gameplay. The final price at launch will be $19.99 USD, with a 10% discount for the first 14 days. The original soundtrack will also be sold alongside the game.
If you’re a Steam user, this is definitely one to add to your wishlist. Once reviews are published, you can determine if these two concepts work well together.
