Christopher Nolan recently revealed whether Greek gods will appear in The Odyssey. His epic fantasy action film will release in theaters on July 17. Apart from Matt Damon, the movie features an ensemble cast, including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and many others.

Christopher Nolan answers if The Odyssey has any gods in it

The Oppenheimer director recently revealed to Stephen Colbert whether his upcoming directorial venture will feature appearances by the Greek gods.

Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Christopher Nolan stated that they have worked to include many such “elements” that are essential to the story of The Odyssey.

Nolan stated, “We have a horse. That much I can tell you. We have Odysseus, we have Telemachus, we have Penelope, we have this whole idea of what’s going on in Ithaca, and this hero trying to get back to his family. I mean, really, it’s a story about a family.”

The Academy Award-winning filmmaker further gave a vague answer as he expanded on the role of Greek gods in the movie. He went on to add, “This is a world where people saw gods in everything, everywhere. So the thunder, the tides coming in, the wind blowing – that’s all evidence of divinity that they’re surrounded by. So what we’re trying to do is take the audience and put them in that world and put them in that mindset, which is hopefully a good non-answer to your question.”

Moreover, Christopher Nolan praised Homer, the poet, whose poem the movie is based on. Calling mythological gods the original superheroes, he conveyed, “The thing about Homer, it is the Marvel of its day. It’s very directly this desire for us to feel or believe gods could walk amongst us, and I think the modern comic book is kind of our expression of that.”

Additionally, Nolan spoke about his experience working with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, also expressing his desire to work again with the Spider-Man: Brand New Day star.
