Homelander Transforms in The Boys’ Captain America: Civil War

The Boys Season 5 has entered its final stretch of episodes, with Homelander receiving a significant upgrade. The unstable leader of The Seven finally obtained what he had been searching for, using it to become what he always believed he was destined to be. As a result, the stakes have increased for Billy Butcher and his team, who are determined to stop the power-hungry Supe. Notably, this episode features a plot element reminiscent of Captain America: Civil War.

The Boys incorporates a twist on the Captain America: Civil War plot

Homelander achieves immortality at the conclusion of the latest episode of The Boys.

In Season 5 Episode 6 “Though the Heavens Fall,” the titular team utilized Bombsight’s former partner, the aged Supe Golden Geisha, as bait to lure him in order to obtain the V1. The former arrived with it to save her but ended up battling Soldier Boy, who was lured in by Sister Sage to take the substance and destroy it. However, Soldier Boy proposed freeing Bombsight from his immortality so he could age naturally with Geisha in exchange for the V1. Bombsight accepted the deal and handed it over.

Earlier in the episode, Sister Sage presented Homelander and Soldier Boy with a video of Homelander with Stormfront, which caused a rift between father and son since Soldier Boy had feelings for the deceased Supe. This mirrors a key plot point in Captain America: Civil War. In that film, Baron Zemo aimed to dismantle the Avengers by showing Tony Stark and Steve Rogers a video of Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier) killing Tony’s parents under Hydra’s influence. This revelation led to a confrontation among them and created a divide between the two Avengers as Steve withheld this information from Tony.

However, unlike in the film where Steve and Tony became temporarily estranged, Soldier Boy and Homelander manage to reconcile. Soldier Boy realizes that Stormfront likely wanted Homelander to become immortal and gave him the V1. Subsequently, Homelander injected himself with it, gaining both immortality and immunity from Billy Butcher’s supe-killing virus.

The first six episodes of The Boys Season 5 are currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
