Matlock Season 3 Major Update After Release Delay

After only two seasons, Matlock has established itself as one of CBS' top shows, consistently receiving high ratings from critics and strong viewership. Earlier this year, the crime drama was renewed for a third season, which will introduce a new mystery following the Wellbrexa case, concluded in the explosive Season 2 finale. Titled “Matty Matlock,” the finale featured Matty avenging her daughter’s death while those responsible for concealing key details in the Wellbrexa case were exposed and arrested. Consequently, the future of Matty and Olympia’s partnership, as well as that of the law firm Jacobson and Moore, remains uncertain.

The premiere date for Matlock Season 3 has yet to be announced, though it was previously confirmed that it will premiere in CBS’ midseason 2026-27 schedule. Recent reports also indicate that production is ongoing and will likely continue through the rest of this year, meaning the show is unlikely to return this year. Therefore, fans can expect an announcement for an early 2027 premiere soon.

Speaking with TV Insider, Beau Bridges, who portrays Howard “Senior” Markston, shared a Matlock filming update, revealing when he will return to set. “I’m going to work on Matlock in December,” Bridges said. “They just started now, so the timing worked out for me to be able to do R.J. [Decker] as well.” Bridges’ character, a managing partner at Jacobson Moore, was jailed for the Wellbrexa cover-up scandal alongside his son Julian in Matlock, who helped expose his corrupt father but was arrested as part of his own attempt to atone for his involvement.

A critical patient comes through the door. What’s your first instinct?
Medicine under pressure reveals who you actually are.

AStay completely present — block everything else out and work through it step by step, right now.
BTriage fast and delegate — get the right people on the right problems immediately.
CTrust my gut and move — I work best when I stop overthinking and just act.
DAsk the question everyone else is ignoring — what’s the thing that doesn’t fit?
ETake a breath, make a joke to cut the tension, and then get to work — panic helps no one.

02

Why did you go into medicine in the first place?
The honest answer says more about you than the one you’d give in an interview.

ABecause I wanted to be where it matters most — right at the edge, when someone’s life is actually on the line.
BBecause I wanted to help people — genuinely, one patient at a time, in a system that makes it hard.
CBecause I was drawn to the intensity of it — the stakes, the drama, the feeling of being fully alive.
DBecause medicine is the most interesting puzzle there is — and I needed a problem worth solving.
EBecause I wanted to make a difference — and also, honestly, I didn’t know what else to do with my life.
