Hugh Jackman’s Underrated Sci-Fi Action Movie Finds New Streaming Home

Hugh Jackman‘s underrated sci-fi action movie has officially confirmed a new streaming home, arriving on the platform next month. Jackman’s best movies hail from a wide array of genres, showcasing his versatility as an actor. This includes everything from the mystery comedy The Sheep Detectives to the musical film The Greatest Showman. However, he’s also no stranger to action films, either, starring in movies like Van Helsing and, more recently, The Death of Robin Hood, over the course of his lengthy career.

One character he’s been known for playing in an action setting is Logan, or Wolverine, one of the most iconic X-Men in Marvel’s superhero repertoire. He’s portrayed the character onscreen since 2000’s X-Men, and has starred in multiple movies focused around the adamantium-clawed hero. One of these movies is 2013’s The Wolverine. An unsung installment in the franchise, the movie sees Logan travel to Japan, where an incident leaves him without his healing abilities. He fights against a group of samurai while struggling with the death of Jean Gray in X-Men: The Last Stand.

Now, 13 years after it was originally released, The Wolverine is getting a new streaming home on HBO Max. The underrated installment in the X-Men franchise will be available to watch on the platform starting November 1, 2026. This brings the film to a wider audience while still making it available to watch on Disney+. The Wolverine will bring the number of X-Men movies on HBO Max up to three, with X-Men: First Class and Deadpool 2 already available to watch on the platform.

Deadpool 2: Super Duper Cut, which adds 15 minutes of footage to the original movie, is also streaming on HBO Max.

Reviews for The Wolverine were generally positive upon release. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 70% critic score based on 261 reviews, alongside a 69% audience score from over 250,000 ratings. It was also a commercial success at the box office, earning $414.8 million against a $132 million budget. However, the movie has since been overshadowed by larger releases featuring the character, like Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine, both of which catapulted the character into a befitting R-rated setting.

What Does The Future Hold For Jackman’s Wolverine?

As of writing, there’s been no official confirmation that Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine in any future projects. However, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will be bringing 20th Century Fox’s X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This opens the door for his reprisal, especially since the version seen in Deadpool & Wolverine is still alive by the end of the movie.

However, he’s not destined to play Wolverine forever. A new X-Men movie set in the MCU is slated for release on May 5, 2028. It will feature a number of recast heroes going into the next chapter of the shared universe, meaning it’s likely that, the next time Wolverine is seen after Avengers: Secret Wars, he’ll be played by a completely different actor. For now, though, The Wolverine provides plenty of sci-fi action with Jackman serving as the perfectly-cast lead.
