Kagurabachi Takes Unexpected Hiatus Before Anime Launch

Kagurabachi is officially going on hiatus ahead of the anime’s premiere, and the manga community couldn’t be more shocked. From nearly the moment it debuted, Kagurabachi has been a major hit for its stylish action and artwork and surprisingly strong writing, and with the rumored anime adaptation finally confirmed to be in development, it’s all but certain that Kagurabachi will become one of the biggest stories in modern anime.

Kagurabachi is well on its way to becoming a legend, but before that can happen, there’s far more trouble in store for the series than people probably thought. Over the past few months, series creator Takeru Hokazono has repeatedly taken breaks due to illness and fatigue, many of them being incredibly sudden, and now, it’s just been announced that Kagurabachi will go on hiatus on Sunday, June 28, June 29 in Japan, and it won’t return until August at the earliest. This couldn’t happen at a worse time for the series, but if any series deserves a break, it’s Kagurabachi.

Kagurabachi going on hiatus would always be hard on fans, and it happening right now is especially bad timing. For starters, with the Kagurabachi anime officially in development, there’s more hype for the series than ever, as fans old and new are excited about getting into the next big thing, so if the manga goes on hiatus, then that’s going to kill a lot of momentum on the manga side of things, especially if it ends up going past August.

The hottest new-gen Shonen Jump anime adaptation confirms an early release for lucky fans in North America and Europe.

More than that, though, is what’s going on in the manga. Following the end of part 1, Kagurabachi finally started revealing the story of the Seitei War and Kunishige’s creation of the Enchanted Blades, and between the massive lore drops, the introduction of the Mikaboshi, and the massive amount of character development for characters old and new, it’s already a top contender for the manga’s best arc. Because of that, a hiatus will only serve to kill the momentum and make it hard to remain invested, and with an arc as great as this, that’s nothing but disappointing to see.

Kagurabachi’s hiatus might be disappointing as a fan, but that doesn’t mean anyone has the right to complain about it. The incredibly harsh working conditions of Weekly Shonen Jump and other weekly manga serials have been public knowledge for years now, so if Takeru Hokazono is feeling burnt out by that, then it’s perfectly understandable for him to need time off; if anything, considering how inexperienced Hokazono is, the fact that he’s only going on hiatus now shows just how determined he is to not disappoint his fans.
