Alan Ritchson, star of Reacher, was reportedly close to landing a significant DCU role. The actor has been advocating for the role of Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe for several years, but it seems the character he nearly secured was not the Dark Knight.
During an appearance on The Hot Mic, insider Jeff Sneider disclosed that Ritchson was in discussions to portray Deathstroke in DC’s forthcoming Bane/Deathstroke crossover film. Sneider confirmed a prior report from X user Fortress of DC, who also stated the same. It is important to note that DC Studios has not provided any official comment on this matter, so it should be regarded as a rumor for now. It remains uncertain whether Ritchson finalized a deal to take on the character in the upcoming film.
Ritchson previously acknowledged that he had conversations with Gunn about securing a role that would fit him within the DCU. The actor is familiar with DC characters, having portrayed Aquaman in Smallville. Deathstroke was previously depicted by Joe Manganiello in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
What do we know about the Deathstroke and Bane movie?
The Deathstroke/Bane film has been reported to be under development for over two years. Earlier reports indicated that the film did not have a completed script. However, it was reported that DC Studios had identified a frontrunner to direct the film, Greg Mottola. Matthew Orton has been reported as the writer for this project.
Details regarding its storyline and the possibility of a Batman appearance have been kept confidential. The DCU is set to begin exploring Batman’s world with Clayface, which will be released later this year. Regarding the Dark Knight himself, there have been no significant updates concerning The Brave and the Bold within the DCU. Currently, DC Studios is producing The Batman Part II, which exists in a universe separate from the DCU.
The Deathstroke/Bane film currently does not have a release date.
