Netflix’s Brutal 4-Part Historical Epic Comes to an End

Netflix has had yet another wildly successful year already in 2026, with some hits big enough to crack the streamer’s all-time top 10 most-watched list. The film in question to accomplish such an impressive feat is War Machine, the big-budget sci-fi thriller starring Alan Ritchson from the Prime Video series, Reacher. The film picked up over 135 million views during its initial viewing period, which is enough to make it the #9 most-watched Netflix movie in history. Netflix also found success with the premiere of The Rip (starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) and Apex (starring Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton), but neither did well enough to earn a spot in the all-time top 10. Netflix’s latest blockbuster comes in the form of The Whisper Man, the new twisty psychological thriller starring Robert De Niro and Adam Scott opposite Michelle Monaghan.

One aspect where Netflix has excelled in recent years is acquiring older shows that were canceled or discarded by older networks and giving them new life on the biggest streaming service in the world. One show that received the classic Netflix bump when it was added to the streamer last year was Spartacus, which stars Liam McIntyre in the titular role (taking over for Andy Whitfield after he passed away in 2011). All four seasons of Spartacus (three mainline seasons, and one prequel in Gods of the Arena) have been streaming on Netflix since last September, but Netflix’s deal with Starz that allowed the show to air on the platform has officially come to an end. Netflix has announced that Spartacus is officially leaving the platform, meaning the last day to watch all four seasons will be next week, on September 14. The historical epic series will continue to stream on its other home, Starz.

Five legendary universes. Five completely different visions of what the world could be — or already was. One of them is the world your instincts, your values, and your particular way of existing were built for. Eight questions will tell you which one.

What Is ‘Spartacus’ About?

The official synopsis forSpartacus, which holds a solid 65% from critics on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, reads as follows: “Torn from his homeland and separated from the woman he loves, Spartacus is forced into slavery and condemned to the bloody gladiator’s arena in Rome. As he navigates the violent and brutal world he realizes that not all battles are fought in the arena, and that he must overcome treachery and temptation to survive. This retelling of the story of Spartacus is rife with blood, violence and sex, set to the sounds of jarring guitars, soit’s definitely not for the younger crowd.”Spartacus star Liam McIntyre has also been cast as the next Wolverine in the new Marvel game from Insomniac dropping exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15.

Check outSpartacus this weekend before it’s removed from Netflix early next week and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of all the hottest projects on streaming.
