Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green‘s 2014 movie, The Salvation, is quietly approaching its streaming exit. Fans have a limited time to watch the pair’s gritty Western on Paramount+, making this a good time to revisit one of their lesser-known projects before it rides into the sunset. The two had previously worked together on the James Bond movie, Casino Royale.
The Salvation is leaving Paramount+ next month
Fans of Mads Mikkelsen don’t have much time left to revisit one of his most overlooked Westerns. The Salvation is set to leave Paramount+ on August 31, making now the last chance to catch it on the platform before it rides off into the sunset (via The Collider).
Released in 2014, the film reunited Mikkelsen with Eva Green nearly a decade after the pair shared the screen in Casino Royale. Instead of spies, poker tables, and secret missions, The Salvation is a gritty frontier tale directed by Kristian Levring.
Produced by Sisse Graum Jørgensen alongside Zentropa Entertainments, Forward Films, and Spier Films, the story follows Danish immigrant Jon Jensen, whose search for revenge after a heartbreaking personal loss puts him on a collision course with a ruthless outlaw who rules the town through fear.
Alongside Mikkelsen and Green, the film features Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jonathan Pryce, Éric Cantona, Mikael Persbrandt, and Douglas Henshall. Green plays the role of Madelaine, while Morgan takes on the role of the merciless outlaw Delarue.
The film currently holds a 6.7/10 rating on IMDb, a 72% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 62% audience score, with many fans praising Mikkelsen’s restrained performance, the striking cinematography, and the movie’s old-school Western style and elements.
The Salvation may have won over critics, but moviegoers largely let it slip through the cracks. Despite boasting an impressive cast and a reported production budget of around €10.5 million, the Western brought in a little over $1 million worldwide, leaving it far short of expectations at the box office.
With the film scheduled to leave Paramount+ on August 31, viewers have one last shot to discover or revisit the gripping Western that reunited Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green.
