The children of Hilton, aged 8 to 13, are currently under the care of his mother Teresita Lavandeira, who applied for temporary custody last month following his livestream on August 4.
His family previously confirmed that his children, along with Hilton’s niece and sister, were present in his home “just minutes before the public livestream incident.”
“When it became evident that Perez was undergoing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they quickly left to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma,” his family stated in an August 6 announcement. “Our top priority right now is assisting the children in beginning to heal from what they experienced.”
Regarding Perez, he was hospitalized for his physical injuries for several weeks before being moved to a residential treatment program.
“Regardless of what anyone may think of ‘Perez Hilton,’ his past, or things he has said over the years, there’s a real human being behind the name,” his family shared in a September 14 statement. “Mario is a father of three, a son, a brother, and a friend who reached a point where he was struggling so deeply that he believed the people he loved would somehow be better off without him.”
