There are always free games to play on Steam, but you definitely don’t want to miss this extremely limited-time giveaway. One of the greatest games ever made is being given away completely free this month. If you’ve never played it, now is your time. If you have played it… play it again.
Given the sheer number of free games on Steam, it’s fair to say they’re not always worth it. I spend a lot of time looking through freebies to see if there’s anything decent, and they certainly are not all diamonds. Sometimes, however, we get a real treat. This is one of those times.
One of the best games of 2016 and, arguably, one of the greatest games of all time is Dishonored 2. This masterclass in immersive sim action from Arkane Studios remains unmatched in its field. It’ll also be 100 percent free to download and keep for Steam users from May 13. The only catch is you don’t have forever.
Dishonored 2 is being given away in the form of Steam keys by Lenovo via the Legion Gaming Community. To be very clear, this giveaway is very much a first-come, first-served kind of situation and will end once Lenovo runs out of keys. This makes it an extremely limited-time giveaway, with no guarantees that everyone will be able to get a copy of the game.
If you want to be in with a chance, here are the three main things you need to do to prepare ahead of time.
- The giveaway officially kicks off at 9am PT/12 pm ET on May 13.
- Note that you need to have a registered and verified account on the Legion Gaming Community website. This account needs to be linked to a Steam account that you have spent at least $5 at any point in the past.
- You can actually join the Key Drop Queue ahead of time. You’ll definitely want to do this.
Once you make it through the queue, you have ten minutes to get your key voucher, which you then redeem for a code via Lenovo’s partner, Gamesplanet. Assuming you manage all that, you simply head into Steam and redeem the code in the normal way. It’s probably also worth setting up an account on Gamesplanet ahead of time, to be fair.
If you’re not familiar with Dishonored 2, it’s a first-person stealth/action game in which you play as a supernatural assassin on a quest for revenge. It won over 100 GOTY awards when it first released back in 2016 and deserved every single one of them. This is one of the best examples of a truly perfect immersive sim, blending combat, stealth, and a dizzying array of gadgets and powers to get through levels in any number of ways.
If you have a Steam account and you’ve never played Dishonored 2, you owe it to yourself to pick it up… especially since it’ll be free.
