Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series is truly one of the modern greats of the genre, deserving every bit of praise from its dedicated fanbase. However, these fans have not received adaptations in other mediums comparable to those for epics like The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

The Prime Video adaptation did not achieve the anticipated success, concluding after three seasons that failed to justify further investment. Despite this, there is an upcoming release that could significantly change the landscape for the community.

If you haven’t been following the crowdfunding campaign, War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time is an upcoming grand strategy board game that exceeded its goal of $50,000, raising over $1.1 million before closing.

To give fans a glimpse of what they can expect if they invest in the game, publisher Dire Wolf provided the following description:

“Robert Jordan’s fantasy masterpiece comes to your table with the first-ever board game based on The Wheel of Time series. War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time chronicles the epic conflict between the forces of light and darkness as players wage war across a land of magic, ancient prophecies, and powerful armies set to save the world … or destroy it. The game combines tableau building, action selection, and area control mechanics in a thrilling struggle of conquest and survival.”

As part of this offering, fans can purchase The Last Battle Bundle, which includes the deluxe version of the game along with all cosmetic items. The complete list of items in this package is as follows:

• War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time® – The One Power Edition
• War of the Dragon Component Upgrade Pack
• War of the Dragon Card Sleeves
• War of the Dragon Neoprene Playmat
• Campaign Exclusive – Map of the Westlands Art Print
• Backerkit Access

The only downside to this exciting news is that War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time has just begun serious production, with Dire Wolf not expecting it to ship until June 2027. However, if you can wait that long, it could be one of the best physical board game releases next year.
