Apparently, Ali Hazelwood wasn’t quite finished with Adam and Olive after all. The Love Hypothesis has already made the leap from BookTok phenomenon to upcoming movie, but returning to those characters on set has now produced something even more unexpected: an entire sequel that Hazelwood herself didn’t think she’d ever write.
Hazelwood has officially announced The Two-Body Problem, a direct sequel to her bestselling romance novel The Love Hypothesis. The new book will be released on February 2, 2027, and returns to Adam and Olive several years into their relationship. And things are moving extremely quickly beyond the page, too. MRC is already developing a movie adaptation of The Two-Body Problem for Amazon MGM Studios, although Hazelwood cautioned that “nothing is guaranteed” at this stage.
Announcing the novel, Hazelwood admitted that writing a sequel wasn’t something she had planned even relatively recently. Instead, working on the movie adaptation helped her fall in love with Adam and Olive all over again.
“‘I wrote a sequel to The Love Hypothesis’ is not a sentence I thought I’d say a year or so ago, but now I weirdly can’t imagine a world in which The Two-Body Problem doesn’t exist. I’m really eager to talk more about this book and how it came about in the next few months.”
Hazelwood continued:
“For now let me just say that the TLH movie and its cast made me fall for Adam and Olive all over again, that revisiting them was an absolute pleasure.”
