The Sci-Fi Masterpiece Surpassing Marvel’s Multiverse Is Free Soon

Key Takeaways

  • Multiverse Concept: The multiverse concept has roots in the 1950s and gained significant popularity recently.
  • Box Office Success: Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed b.9 billion, becoming a major hit.
  • Award-Winning Film: Everything Everywhere All at Once received 11 Academy Award nominations and won 7.
  • Streaming Availability: Starting July 1, you can stream Everything Everywhere All at Once for free on Plex.

It might feel as if the multiverse is a relatively new concept; after all, Hollywood hasn’t been able to get enough of it over recent years. However, the concept actually dates back to 1950s quantum physics and has been appearing in popular culture ever since. It is, nevertheless, this past decade that has seen a boom in the multiverse’s popularity, most notably with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the $1.9 billion blockbuster that stands as one of the highest-grossing movies of the 2020s.

In the film, fans were left picking their jaws up off the floor as Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker came face-to-face with a returning Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, with this no doubt a massive contributor to the film’s box office triumph. At the end of the film, Holland’s Parker is wiped from the memory of the world, leaving him to pick up the pieces on July 31 in Spider-Man: Brand New Day — “A forgotten Peter Parker lives alone as a full-time Spider-Man,” the synopsis for the movie reads, “until mounting pressure triggers a dangerous change and a powerful new enemy emerges.”

But before Brand New Day swings into theaters, the best multiverse movie of the decade is about to become available for free. Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), soared to success in 2022, with its bonkers, existential blend of multiple genres praised by both critics and audiences. In fact, so successful was the film that it earned a staggering 11 Academy Award nominations and won 7, most notably in three of the four major acting categories and the coveted Best Picture. Starting July 1, you’ll be able to stream Everything Everywhere All at Once for free on Plex.

How do you feel about keeping a secret identity?
The mask — or lack of one — says everything.
Your answer says more about you than you'd think.
Every hero pays a price.
The question is how they pay it.
You've lost someone important because of your heroism.
How do you carry that?
You don't ask for forgiveness,
and you don't expect gratitude.
You see a corrupt,
broken world,
and you've decided to do something about it,
consequences be damned.
Frank Castle's war is born from love twisted by loss —
and so is yours.
Uncompromising
and unflinching —
The world may not agree with your methods,
but your conviction is absolute.
You fight in shadows between law
and chaos,
guided by fierce moral compass
that refuses to let guilty walk free.
You've looked into darkness
and chosen not to become it,
though line has never been easy.
Your answer says more about you than you'd think.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Broke a Box Office Record

The Daniels managed to make this ambitious masterpiece for just $25 million. At the box office, it smashed expectations and earned $145 million worldwide, split between a domestic haul of $77 million and further $68 million from overseas markets. This was enough to make it A24’s highest-grossing film of all time; however, that record has since been broken by recent viral horror hitThe Backrooms.

The film is streaming for free on Plex starting July 1. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for latest streaming stories.
